Build a four-part answer.
- Situation: What was happening? Give just enough context.
- Task: What needed to happen, and what was your responsibility?
- Action: What did you actually do? Focus on your contribution.
- Result: What happened, and what did you learn?
Your practice prompt
“We were dealing with ____. My responsibility was ____. I decided to ____. The outcome was ____. Next time, I would ____.”
No previous job? Start with a real experience.
A school project, volunteer shift or other responsibility may give you an example of teamwork, problem-solving or learning something new. Choose an example relevant to the question and explain the connection.
Practise the outline, not a script.
Say your answer aloud once. Cut details that do not help explain what you did. If the outcome was mixed, be honest about it and share what you learned.
Give future-you a little help.
Confirm the time and time zone. For a video call, test your camera, microphone and connection. For an in-person meeting, check the route and allow extra travel time.
